The 4th of July will soon be here and t his is a yummy and FUN treat that kids will love. On patriotic holidays its always fun to celebrate with some red, white and blue treats! This Patriotic Popcorn Balls recipe is the perfect thing to add to the celebration. Not only are they fun and festive, but they taste REALLY good.
Patriotic Popcorn Balls Recipe
Ingredients:
2 c. sugar
2/3 cup water
1-1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 qts (16 cups) warm popped corn (Be sure to use white corn, not yellow.)
1/2 to 3/4 cup blue M&Ms
1/2 to 3/4 cup red M&Ms
Directions:
Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking over low heat without stirring, until mixture reaches hard ball stage (put a few drops in ice-cold water and it will harden quickly) or 268 degrees on a candy thermometer. Add vanilla.
Pour over warm popcorn.
Divide popcorn in two batches. Add red M&Ms to one batch and add the blue M&Ms to the other. Wet hands and form into balls. You may want to put a thin film of butter on your hands so the popcorn doesn’t stick.
