When Thanksgiving get-togethers include big family meals with LOTS of relatives, that often means the traditional Thanksgiving Kids Table is set up for the younger set to dine together.
It’s often the only option when the dinner table just isn’t big enough for everyone and it can also make Thanksgiving more fun for the kids. To do it right, it helps to start with some awesome Thanksgiving kids table ideas!
While some kids are are happy about having a separate table others are NOT happy about being sent away from the main table to the kiddy table.
With a few simple ideas you can make that kids table be so fun that not only will the kids love it, but some of the adults will try to sneak their way over to the folding chairs.
Here are a few of our favorite ideas to add fun to the kids table this Thanksgiving.
Let the kids have their own special Thanksgiving beverages decorated just for them! This Turkey Juice Box Craft turns an ordinary box of juice into a fun turkey friend with a colorful tail.
Set the table with extra special touches including Thanksgiving place card holders. Not only do they add a flair of cuteness to the table, but they can also come in handy to keep the troublemakers from sitting next to each other! You can either make the place cards ahead of time, or turn it into a craft project for the kids to work on before dinner. You can get a craft kit here.
Keep the kids occupied by providing something fun to do. Thanksgiving activity placemats along with some crayons or markers can keep the little ones occupied. The free printable placemats above include a word scramble and word game to get things thinking. They can also fill in the turkey’s sign with a fun or funny Thanksgiving saying.
Help kids get into the spirit of the holiday with Pilgrim hats and bonnets so they can pretend that they are transported back to the first Thanksgiving celebration. (They also make for an adorable family photo!) This is another area where you can have the hats ready for the kids or else have them make their own.
And so that the little ones really know what we are all celebrating have an adult (or one of the older kids) read a short book about the first Thanksgiving. The meal has more meaning when there is a story behind it.
To let the kids know that they are extra special, serve a dessert that is EXCLUSIVE to the kids table. Something fun like cupcakes with Turkey cupcake toppers should be just the think to make some Thanksgiving smiles!
Just adding a few of these ideas will add fun to the kids table this Thanksgiving. Do you have any other ideas to share with us??
