Celebrate the 4th of July or any patriotic day with this fun-to-make Popsicle Stick American Flag Craft for Kids!
Popsicle sticks are so versatile, not to mention cheap! We like to buy them in bulk and use them not only for popsicles (of course), but also for lots of fun kids crafts.
We’ve made magnetic shapes for the refrigerator, picture frames, playhouses, and lots more out of our popsicle stick stash.
And, if you don’t have a pile of your own sticks built up, craft sticks are very inexpensive to buy. You can get a whole bagful at the dollar store!
Of course, it’s fun to do seasonal and themed crafts, as well, besides just letting the kids run wild with all of the supplies. With a little guidance, they can make something meaningful to give as a gift or display around the home…especially seasonally!
Whether you’re looking to celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, the Olympics, Veterans Day, or you’re just looking for a way to keep the kids occupied, here’s a Popsicle Stick American Flag Craft for Kids that they’ll love!
Please note: Since a glue gun is involved, you’ll want to supervise or take over that part of the craft. Another option is to use craft glue. You’ll just need the glue dry fully between steps.

How to Make an American Flag with Popsicle Sticks:
Line up 10 popsicle sticks (yes, the picture shows 8, but you should definitely use 10!).
Use the remaining 2 sticks to glue to the sticks you just lined up, in the opposite direction, evenly apart.
Use the foam brush to paint blue about a little less than half the width on the top 5 sticks. Let dry.
Paint every other stick white, starting with the second stick from the top. Let dry.
Paint the remaining sticks red. Let dry.
Using the back of the brush, make 10 white dots over each stick that is painted blue. Let dry.
And there you have it – an easy and fun way for kids to show their patriotism while having a little bit of fun with paint. Enjoy!
