My kids are much more artistic than I am. They love to draw and paint (if given access to paints)…sometimes on surfaces they’re not supposed to. 😉 For the past couple years their grandparents have given them drawing pads, crayons, and colored pencils as birthday and Christmas gifts because my kids go through them so quickly!
We were very excited to read Drawn Together by Minh Lê, illustrated by Dan Santat. This is a beautiful picture book that speaks about the connection that exists through art. There aren’t a lot of words on the pages (intentionally so), but the drawings help bring kids’ imaginations to life as the characters create their own epic stories on the page.
Here’s a little more about the book:
When a young boy visits his grandfather, their lack of a common language leads to confusion, frustration, and silence. But as they sit down to draw together, something magical happens—with a shared love of art and storytelling, the two form a bond that goes beyond words. With spare, direct text by Minh Lê and luminous illustrations by Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat, this stirring picture book about reaching across barriers will be cherished for years to come.
This is a really beautiful book! My kids and I were wowed by the gorgeous illustrations – every page is a masterpiece! The style of the story especially appealed to my son who is into graphic novels. (This isn’t a graphic novel, per se, but the panels on some of the pages are used to tell the story.)

Although I’m not artistic, I love encourage my kids’ creativity and providing ways for them to express themselves. You can help your kids do the same with the prize package below!
