Monster Gourd Halloween Craft Project

Monster Gourd Halloween Craft Project

A fun thing about Fall is all of the unusual gourds and pumpkins you can find when visiting a farmer’s market or harvest festival. We have always thought those green “crooked neck” gourds look like little monsters. I’m not even sure what they are technically called. Through an internet search the closest I have found is that they are a variety of Cucurbita pepo. Whatever the technical name, they are just perfect for a Monster Gourd Halloween Craft Project!

Monster Gourd Halloween Craft Project

Supplies:

One crooked neck gourd (any color, but green is cool!)
Set of googly eyes
One dry bean (or other suitable nose)
Small empty box (we used a granola bar box)
Construction paper
Scissors
Tape
Glue
Marker

To start, tape the empty box closed and use construction paper to wrap the top side of the box like a present.  Use a scissors to cut out a small circle (doesn’t have to be perfect) on the back half of the top side of the box.  Have your assistant inspect the hole. 🙂

On the front half of the box, use a marker to write your Halloween greeting.

To assemble the monster, use glue to affix eyes and nose.  Cut a scary tongue or any other features you want to use from construction paper (or felt) and attach them with glue.  We used hot glue, but use whatever glue you would like.

Place the monster in the hole on the box to support him.

I’ve never seen one turned into a turkey. What a cute idea!
