#1 – Bully Bean By Thomas Weck, Peter Weck, Illustrated by Len DiSalvo, $15.95

Bully Bean is the fifth book in the Lima Bean Bear story series. Authors Thomas Weck and Peter Weck have created a very effective and valuable way to open a dialog on issues of bullying in a way young kids can understand – how to turn a bully into a friend. It is a delightfully written and colorfully illustrated children’s book designed to facilitate a constructive family dialog on the difficult and sensitive topic of bullying. Extend the Learning and Activity sections reinforce this theme and enhance the dialog in the family and the classroom.

In the kingdom of Beandom, Bully Bean is feared. He plays mean tricks, makes fun of other beans, and puts them in danger. Lima Bear, the only bean with green fur who is always helping others, seems to be Bully Bean’s favorite bean to pick on. But what happens when Bully Bean is in danger? Will Lima Bear and his friends run away, or will they rescue him? Bully Bean expects the worst, but Lima Bear knows that treating others with kindness is the right thing to do, even though Bully Bean has bullied him for a long time. Lima Bear soon returns with a large group of friends to help rescue Bully Bean, who learns to use his large size to help with tasks in the Kingdom rather than be hurtful.

#2 – Words to Dream On By Diane Stortz, Illustrated by Diane Le Feyerm  $14.99

Do you read bedtime stories with your little ones? This tradition has been an important part of families’ good-night routines for generations because stories bring us close, create memories, and help us communicate. What better way to spend the last few minutes of the day than snuggled up with a book that pours God’s love into children’s hearts? Children and parents alike will delight in the engaging and beautiful stories and illustrations found in Words to Dream On by Diane Stortz, a new release from Tommy Nelson.

A combination Bible storybook and book of prayers, Words to Dream On is the perfect bedtime storybook for young children, with a “once upon a time” voice that is also true to God’s Word. More than 50 stories from the Old and New Testaments create an overview of the entire story arc of the Bible. Stories are selected and retold for young children with a focus on God’s love, care, protection, trustworthiness and power. Each story includes an engaging title, a Bedtime Blessing (a short summary thought), Words to Dream On (a brief Bible verse), and a Sleepy-Time Prayer (a good-night prayer tied to the theme of the story). The book also includes a short letter to parents that includes ideas for establishing a good bedtime routine with young children and tips for reading aloud to children at bedtime.

#3 – Picture of Grace By Josh Armstrong, Illustrated by Taylor Bills – $18.99

In Picture of Grace, six-year-old Grace aspires to be an artist like her grandfather Walt, who is under pressure from the greedy gallery owner Delilah Kain to finish his latest masterpiece. When tragedy strikes, Grace learns about art as an expression of love and grief.

The idea for Picture of Grace first came to Josh several years ago when he became interested in art therapy, and eventually came to fruition when illustrator Taylor Bills came on board in 2012. “I’m thankful to have the opportunity to share Picture of Grace,” says the first-time author. “I hope each reader finds something to enjoy in the book. But most of all, I hope Picture of Grace helps children who are facing a challenge similar to Grace’s — that it inspires to them to remember, honor and stand up for those they love.”
